Eliza is a San Francisco-based artist who primarily works in painting. In her practice, she builds immersive atmospheres where color and form carry the meaning. Thin veils of acrylic, soft oil passages, and muted transitions accumulate into fields that feel both near and distant. Lately she paints across supports of different transparency, including raw canvas, sheer fabric, and reflective grounds, so light can move through or bounce back and change the work as you look. Rather than outlining structure, Eliza lets temperature shifts, density, and gentle gradients set the composition so images hover, breathe, and remain open to interpretation.
Her process combines acrylic, oil, oil sticks, chalk, and graphite on raw or lightly prepared canvas and semi-transparent grounds. Layers are stained, wiped, toned, and partially erased to keep the surface porous. By giving materials distinct roles and recomposing them, Eliza underscores temporality and the way emotion settles as ambience. The paintings invite a pause inside daily life. They aim to hold viewers long enough for sensations to surface: the afterglow of an experience, the hum of nostalgia, the calm between impulses. For Eliza, color is a vessel for feeling, and atmosphere is the place where it becomes shareable.
Eliza’s work investigates how human connection and inner states leave subtle, layered imprints that shape and reshape a sense of self over time. Through color, texture, and fluid gestures, she translates tenderness, vulnerability, and longing into visual form. Her practice moves between control and spontaneity, allowing ambiguity and openness to remain active in each composition.
“My aim is the quiet inside a painting. I want it to offer a pause, like a small meditation room where a viewer can slow down and feel their own echo.”
